About TestDaF
TestDaF shows that a student's German is good enough to study at a German university. The digital TestDaF is taken on a computer at a licensed test centre.
It has four sections, Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking, of about three hours in all plus breaks. Each task has its own time and moves on by itself when the time is up; earlier tasks cannot be opened again.
In Listening, short answers are typed; Writing is typed; in Speaking the instructions and a conversation partner are heard through headphones and the answers are recorded.
Each section is reported on its own as TDN 3, TDN 4 or TDN 5 (TestDaF-Niveaustufe), or below TDN 3. There is no overall grade.
